The taxman cometh, with changes

Knowing the new rules for deductions and separate filing can save you headaches later.

Take a deep breath if you receive a call from Revenue Department officials asking for documents about income tax deductions late in the evening or on a weekend during this period of time.

In this festival of tax form submission, some 9.7 million taxpayers are supposed to file tax forms. Of the total, 2.1 million are expected to file for a refund. A few new approaches for tax calculation and refunds taking effect during the tax filing period this year will keep tax officials busier than ever.
