Philippines stunned by Pacquiao loss

MANILA – Manny Pacquiao’s knockout defeat to Juan Manuel Marquez has shocked fans in the Philippines, where the former WBO welterweight world champion is a universally loved figure.

Fans at a live screening of the fight in Manila were left speechless as Pacquiao was left sprawled face-down on the canvas by a stunning counter-punch from Marquez.

“We were shocked.... We really thought he was winning, we didn’t even see the punch,” Pacquiao fan Vince Lavarez, 35, told INQUIRER.net a few minutes after the fight concluded.

I wasn't stunned by Pacquiao getting knocked-out. He didn't look too good against Bradley. Marquez muscled up in the neck and shoulders giving him a lot more power in his punches. I noticed, Pacquiao lost some of that bulk and quickness. Getting hit like that defenitely takes a lot out of you.

The last 2 fights (loss to Bradley, and Marquez) show that Pacquiao has lost his quickness and skill to elude opponent. May be it's time for him to retire.
