Ministry takes aim at traffic snarls on troubled city roads

The Transport Ministry aims to target traffic congestion on specific troubled routes in Bangkok.

Speaking yesterday after a meeting about the capital's traffic headaches, Transport Minister Chadchat Sittipunt said the first targeted road is Rama IV.

He said urgent measures will be taken to ease the flow of traffic on the road within one week.

Focusing on one section of one road at a time will not resolve matters, it will simply move problems elsewhere. Ask any Traffic Engineer, a city's traffic system is called a system because that is what it is. It needs to be considered as a whole. This is just an amateur hour response and will fail in no time flat.

"Police will also be told to strictly enforce traffic laws, he said."... Are there traffic laws in Thailand?
Sorry, but if 99% of the drivers doesn't know what traffic laws are, I see a big fail coming.

    Solution to this:
    1. Stop 1st Car Scheme
    2. Increase BTS Capacity
    3. Periodic inspection of cars' road-worthiness and scrapping failed cars
    4. Start to make driving-license tests real, with proper examination and real world testing/experience.

How about the BIB controlled traffic lights?
