PlayStation 4 game 'Driveclub' latest from 'MotorStorm' studio

Evolution Studios, creator of the four-game offroading series "MotorStorm," had its latest project shown as part of Sony's PlayStation 4 announcement, and "Driveclub" promises to merge obsessive detailing and gorgeous locations with a tight, team-based aspect cribbed from first-person action games

A brief trailer for "Driveclub" was preceded by an introduction from Evolution's game director Matt Southern, who described "Driveclub" and its highly detailed vehicles as "the game we've always wanted to make," something that had "existed as a concept at the studio for ten years" waiting for technology to catch up.

"We're using a first person view to make sure you and your mates feel exactly as you should when you own a car like this," he said, pointing at a top-level supercar, the Koenigsegg Agera R.

"We've gone borderline insane with real world details and subtleties," said Southern. "Even the suede and carpet have a fiber direction causing them to reflect light differently when they've been brushed or touched."

Also crucial to the "Driveclub" experience is its connected, online aspect, one that leverages the team- and rank-based play of a "Battlefield" or "Call of Duty," allowing players to form their own clubs, racing and challenging other drivers and petrolhead outfits from all over the world.

So, no showing for "Gran Turismo 6" at the PlayStation 4 announcement, the anticipated next entry in PlayStation's long-running car simulation series, but the studio behind "Driveclub" seems more than happy to take up the mantle.
